Description:
Future Pinball is a FREE pinball construction program supporting OpenGL for the 3D graphics, Visual Basic for the table logic and Newton Game Dynamics for physics. The included editor can create, load or play tables. When playing, the table and its arcade environment are rendered in full 3D, with the possibility of switching between several views with the functions keys. My favorite view is the “scrolling” view where the camera follows the ball (default F3 key). This view allows the player to see the entire table closely as the ball rolls around. For me it gives me the best sense of immersion into the pinball table.

The graphics engine is scalable, supporting a broad range of old and new hardware. Several custom tables created by users are available to download from the website.

Future Pinball is a real time Pinball Development System. It allows you to design and play your very own pinball simulation in True real time 3D. It uses Advanced Physics to provide the best possible Simulation of a true to life pinball machine.

Tables are built up out of Standard components (Plastics, Pegs, Bumpers, Lights etc..) which are placed onto the playfield via the Editor. Objects like Surfaces, Lights and Rubbers are shapeable within the editor and generated real-time when the table is played. Other objects (Bumpers, Flippers, Gates, Triggers, Targets etc..) use pre-made 3d Models (of which there is a nice selection of each type).

The Table logic is scripted in Visual Basic Scripting (via the Microsoft Scripting Technology’s built into Microsoft Windows). Scripting is designed to be simple but flexible enough to allow a wide vararity of Original Games to be created. Only a limited subset of the Visual Basic Scripting Language is used as a lot of extra functionality is provided by the game engine.

As an alternative to Future Pinball we also highly recommend Visual Pinball reviewed here on Cheapskategamer.com

Future Pinball is generally lauded for it’s excellent 3D graphics and viewing camera control but doesn’t have the authentic rom emulation support found in Visual Pinball using PinMAME. Both pinball simulators support a huge collection of quality pinball machines found in the real-world as well as original creations completed by pinball enthusiasts worldwide.
