Description:
Frets of Fire is a FREE PC game that imitates the commercial game Guitar Hero. It uses the keyboard as the control guitar peripheral and is playable on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. Frets of Fire is a game of musical skill and fast fingers. The aim of the game is to play guitar with the keyboard (or guitar controller) as accurately as possible. It was created as an entry to the Assembly 2006 Game Development Competition by Unreal Voodoo and placed first in the competition. This game is the ultimate Cheapskategamer rhythm guitar game of choice since it requires no additional hardware or software purchase. If you already have an Xbox, PS3, PS2, or Wii guitar it appears that there is support for these guitars as well. Alternatively, you might want to consider Frontman which supports console guitars and has also been reviewed and listed on this website.
A few of the unique features of Frets of Fire are:
• Unique inverted keyboard gameplay style
• Support for guitar controllers and generic joysticks
• Includes a song editor for making your own tunes
• Compete with others on the World Charts
• Hundreds of songs composed by the community
• Supports importing Guitar Hero™ I and Guitar Hero™ II songs
• Multiplatform; runs on Windows™, Linux®, Mac OS X™ and FreeBSD®
• Open source, full Python source code available
